Feel the Earth Move

I was online this morning, and ran across THIS page about Exercise Needs by Age.

They said that it's never too late to start a regular fitness program. Even though it is April, almost May, the New Year's resolution can start with TODAY. A New Earth Day's Resolution!

Up to 35 years old
Two fitness components are often neglected during these years are form and flexibility. Practicing good form in any sport will help you stay injury-free later in life. Devoting time to stretching, yoga or Pilates will also help. Avoid overtraining by always building rest into your exercise program.

35-50 years old
Strength training should be a part of your fitness goals. Perform 30 minutes of resistance training at least three times per week. This is vital for women in order to help prevent osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

50 and up
Even if you haven't exercised in a long time, you have every reason to start now. The real key is slow and gradual progress. Begin any new actrivity with its lowest run. For example, instead of running, start walking first. Instead of lap swimming, take a water aerobics class first. If you're unsure about how to start an exercise program, consult with a qualified personal trainer.
And if you need extra motivation, click here to link to Parent's magazine reader's responses to the question, "How to busy moms fit in time for exercising." My favorite one, probably because I do it, is using your kids as a workout. Hmm...so if I keep it up, when she's 10 will I still be able to bench press her weight? :)

DON'T just READ! GO and DO SOMETHING!
Hop to the bathroom...or maybe from the bathroom is a better idea.

Calf raises while doing the dishes, making a sandwich or talking on the phone!

Do chair lifts before getting up from the dinner table or computer desk.

Commercial Crunch!

Oops, I mean, Commerical Crunches!

Hey, the earth is moving, why can't WE!?

This post is awesome!! I totally agree with it. I looked at the excuses on that motivation page you had a link to; that is all they were excuses. They weren't even strong excuses. Everyone of those 'issues' can be worked around. I think my favorite excuse to hear is, "I can't or don't want to go to the gym (for whatever reason)." Alright, fine. You do not have to go to the gym. That is not the only place were a person can exercise. If I remember correctly, one of the responses to that was get an exercise DVD for like $2.50. That is definately worth it if you mirror the exercises to your absolute fullest! You will not loose weight to get back in shape if you are not intently performing the exercises. Watching someone else workout isn't really going to help you. So, give that workout DVD 100%! Stretch those dollars out that you used to purchase it. Make it worth more than any gym membership!

I like the exercise examples you provided at the bottom. Why people do not think they have time to exercise, I'll never know why. Everyone always has an opportuinity to exercise. The exercises you listed at the bottom are perfect to add to a person's daily rituatals. I think the most productive are the commericial exercises. The time that is set aside for commericials is a good amount of time for a person to get up and do something during the show they are watching. It will also prevent a person from sitting too long. Another thought: haven't you already decided not to do anything else during your TV watching time? So take advantage of that and exercise during the commercials!!!!

Whoo hoo!!! Exercise is way super cool!

You should start your own blog so that I can link to it! :) Thanks sis

I've enjoyed reading your post! You are right. It is never too late to start an exercise program. I spent a week in San Diego and incorporated a lot of walking into each day. My daughter even brought an exercise DVD that we went through as well. My abs were sore for days! I like your exerciese, especially the commercial crunches. Most of us spend a lot of time on the computer either for work or class. So, it is important to incorporate movement and exercise into our schedule every chance we get. Thank you for your very imformative blog!

What a useful post! I enjoyed reading. I started exercise a few years ago. I tried yoga, badminton, and running on the treadmill in Korea, and I do Zumba and Kickboxing here in the United States. Among a lot of programs I have tried, Zumba is the best. It is so fun that I lose all track of time.
